LORDS OF RUIN

Video/Single Review

The drums are perfectly balanced in the mix and panned beautifully. I was pleasantly surprised by the deliverance and clean style vocals, they are very Myles Kennedy-esk but with enough flavour to make it his own. The songs lyrics are very well written, this is accompanied with strong guitar riffs throughout.

The intro to the video via drone shot, heading/passing through the logo and title of the track gives this video a very professional feel. There are great camera/ pan shots and drone footage throughout the entire video.

The singer appears to be very at ease in front of the camera and well versed in acting and gives a great performance, while the rest of the band don’t seem as comfortable or as natural throughout.

At 2:16 the audio appears to be slightly out of sync with the video, due to an editing error I can only assume. About mid way through the video there is a costume change which I think would have looked better had it been done after the breaking of the mirror, highlighting the characters change of mind set. This part of the video is a great addition as it highlights the devastation that alcohol abuse creates for those around you, even for band members.

Further on in the video there is live footage, this is a welcome change to the rest of the video as it captures the bands energy well. Having said that, during the guitar solo the camera is focused on the rhythm guitarist as opposed to the guitarist doing the lead work.

The video has a great ending, showing the lead character as fully moving on from the state he was in with his band backing him up and being their for him throughout.

Overall concept was very good and fits the story of the song very well. We are looking forward to hearing more from Lord of Ruin!
