JSA Album Review

Overall JSA’s new album has a very professional sound. All instruments, including vocals have been beautifully recorded, mixed and mastered, for this we have Alan Smith to thank! For those who may not have heard this album yet, it has a great laid-back easy listening feel.

‘Ghosts’ features beautiful vocal harmonies throughout the entire album, this is one of the elements that gives the album a very atmospheric sound.  During the start of the second track we are met with a very interesting conversational opening, this is a nice touch.

Great guitar lines can be heard throughout the whole album, this helps add a deeper feel of emotion and adds colour. On track 4 the acoustic guitars come out, this is a welcome change to the rest of the album.

Track 3 starts with really nice guitar work; however the vocals can barely be heard. The vocals being low in the mix for this track was a creative decision that helps add atmosphere at the beginning of the song. However because the song has a typical song structure, the vocals being low in the mix all the way through makes it sound more like a mixing error in my opinion. Having said that, the mixing and mastering of the rest of the album is brilliant.

This is a great album from JSA, the songs are very creative and the whole thing has been produced very well. We look forward to hearing more from them!
